I’ve posted this photo before, but it REALLY speaks to me and is a good reminder for ALL women: what a magazine really wants is NOT to help you, but to get your money. (I don’t think they’re evil, and enjoy reading them… but knowing what they’re up to really helps to NOT internalize the silly, stupid and SELF-ESTEEM DIMINISHING messages they send).
The message breakdown of a Cosmo Cover…
- You need a sexy female, with hands by her side or hip. Cleavage & hair movement (wind machine) a MUST. Smile with lips parted (it’s more sensual and a photo trick from the models. Ever notice why their mouths are OPEN when they smile? It implies sex.). Pupils enlarged (also implies sex).
- Put the word SEX in upper left corner. Interchangeable with ORGASM.
- Clearly, you’re doing sex wrong. And you don’t satisfy HIM.
- Watch out for rape/murder. And cancer/health problems. Interchangeable, bottom right corner.
- If you’re happy with your body, you shouldn’t be. Your thighs, butt & abs CAN be smaller/tighter/sexier. Fit into those jeans! (and if not, buy these ones for less).
- Pssst - Your man isn’t satisfied. AND all men want the same things in bed, so what he tells you shouldn’t matter. Cosmo knows ALL the secrets and will tell you what to do to ‘drive him wild’.
- Orgasms. Orgasms. Orgasms. Also upper left hand side.
- Your relationship needs help: he might cheat, not be into you, or any number of things you should worry about. And if he says he is, he’s probably lying.
- SEX. Did I say that already?
- BUTT NAKED. NAKED. NAKED. NAKED.
- Be sexier so more guys will like you and you’ll be happier.
- You’re not normal down there… things you should look for.
- SEX.
